The Winona Health Foundation Scholarship Committee selected Shawn Carlson, to receive the Phyllis A. McClenathan Nursing Scholarship.
Shawn attends Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical and will graduate with an Associate Degree in Nursing. He currently is a certified nursing assistant on the Winona Health Medical, Surgical and Pediatrics units as well as in the Family Birth Center, where he has cared for many patients and their families. At the end of this month he will transition into caring for patients in the Intensive Care Unit at Winona Health.
The Phyllis McClenathan Nursing Scholarship was established by Phyllis’s husband Dean and their children Mark and Denise, when Phyllis, who was a long-time nurse in Winona Health’s Family Birth Center, passed away after a long fight with cancer. In establishing this scholarship, the McClenathan family wanted to honor Phyllis by encouraging and helping others in their efforts to become devoted, effective and compassionate caregivers.
The McClenathan family directed memorials to the scholarship fund and hopes that others will contribute so that the fund will grow and continue in perpetuity. Gifts to the Phyllis McClenathan Nursing Scholarship may be made to the Winona Health Foundation, 855 Mankato Avenue, Winona, Minn., 55987.
